Search for Buildxact alternatives in Australia and nearly every result is written by a vendor selling the alternative. They publish dated AUD price tables, state their GST basis, and concede that Buildxact is strong at estimating. None is organised around the question the reader is carrying: why am I leaving?
The reasons builders give for moving off Buildxact are not all the same reason, and they do not all lead to the same product. Two commonly repeated ones do not survive checking against Buildxact's own documentation.
Key Takeaways
- Buildxact's published price starts at $199/month, but the tier carrying invoicing, schedules and accounting sync is Pro at $399/month. Price the tier you need, not the headline.
- Two popular reasons to leave are false: Buildxact supports contract-price progress claims with retention, and it supports MYOB AccountRight.
- The reasons that hold are the Pro-tier cost, wanting job management at the centre rather than bolted on, MYOB Business specifically, commercial head-contract scope, and the entry price for owner-builders.
- Unlimited users on every tier is Buildxact's strongest and least-discussed advantage. Check it against per-seat alternatives at your real headcount.
- Where a vendor publishes no price, this page says so and names what it is quoted on. Nothing here is estimated.
First, What Buildxact Is Good At
If you run residential or light commercial work, one or two people estimate, and your bottleneck is turning a set of plans into a professional quote, stop here and stay.
Digital takeoff is built into the subscription rather than sold beside it: on-screen measuring from PDF plans, reusable recipes and assemblies, supplier price-list integration, and an estimate that carries through to purchase orders without retyping. Buildxact positions itself as "built for residential builders, not commercial enterprises", and its competitors repeat that rather than contest it. For the estimating shortlist, see construction estimating software australia and construction estimating software.
Every tier includes unlimited users, which is genuinely unusual. NextMinute, Wunderbuild and Built Simple price by band or project; Tradify, Cubit and Groundplan charge per seat.
The Price Question, Stated Properly
Buildxact's Australian plans, read from its own pricing page on 14 October 2026, are Foundation at $199/month or $169 billed annually, Pro at $399/month or $339 annually, and Master at $599/month or $509 annually. All carry unlimited users and all are ex GST; annual billing requires a 12-month commitment, and the Blu AI add-ons run $99 to $149 per month each (Buildxact AU pricing).
The number that matters is not the headline. Foundation has no invoicing, no accounting integrations, no schedules, no change orders, no timesheets, no client portal and no Onsite mobile app. Those rows are marked unavailable on Foundation in Buildxact's own feature comparison chart. Foundation is a takeoff and quoting tool, so a builder who wants to run the job in the same system is looking at Pro.
That is why "both start at $199 a month" is not like-for-like. NextMinute states it on its own Buildxact comparison page (NextMinute), comparing its full job management plan against Buildxact's estimating-only tier. Before concluding Buildxact is expensive, run the per-seat maths: at $399/month with unlimited users a five-person office pays $399, where Groundplan at $99 per seat is $495 for five and Cubit at $170 per user is $850.
Two Reasons People Cite That Do Not Hold Up
"Buildxact has no progress claims or retention"
It does. Buildxact's help centre documents Contract Price invoicing, which splits the contract into milestone claims following the standard residential schedule of deposit, base, frame, lockup, fixing and completion. A separate Completion Percent type claims by percentage complete, and both support retention with a total and a per-invoice percentage set independently, variations included or excluded from the retention base, and retained amounts claimed back at the release milestone (Buildxact help). A builder who switches on this basis pays for nothing. See construction invoicing software for the claim anatomy.
"Buildxact does not integrate with MYOB"
It integrates with MYOB AccountRight, listed on Buildxact's own help centre and on MYOB's app marketplace listing (Buildxact help; MYOB). NextMinute's comparison page states Buildxact connects to "Xero and QuickBooks (no MYOB)", which is inaccurate.
The narrower point that does hold: Buildxact supports Import Bills on Xero and QuickBooks Online but not MYOB, and MYOB Business, the newer cloud product, has no documented Buildxact path. If your ledger is MYOB Business rather than AccountRight, that is a real reason to move. If it is AccountRight, it is not.
If You Are Leaving Over Cost
These undercut Buildxact's $399/month Pro tier, on each vendor's own published figures checked October 2026.
Wunderbuild publishes $123 per month for one active project, $249 for two to ten, $375 for eleven to twenty and $499 for unlimited, with unlimited users, AUD including GST and no lock-in (Wunderbuild). Cheaper than Pro only while your live project count is low.
Built Simple publishes free, Tradie $79, Builder $199 and Pro $399 per month in AUD with 20% off annually, terms stating pricing includes GST (Built Simple). The Builder tier undercuts Pro while still covering job management.
OneBookPlus runs free, then $29, $49 and $69 per month including GST for the core, with an optional Builder Suite estimating and cost-control add-on at $99 per month priced for the business rather than per seat (OneBookPlus).
Cubit (Buildsoft) publishes $170, $226 and $255 per user per month plus GST (Buildsoft). Cheaper than Buildxact for a solo estimator, dearer for a team, and it charges per seat for takeoff depth Buildxact includes.
The caveat that decides this group: none of the cheaper tiers includes a takeoff engine matching Buildxact's. If estimating depth is why you bought it, moving down is not moving sideways.
If You Want Job Management to Be the Centre
These treat the estimate as the start of the job rather than the end of the sale.
NextMinute publishes from A$199 per month for three to nine users and $349 for ten to fourteen, month-to-month, plus GST. Takeoffs are imported rather than measured, and it covers quoting, scheduling, timesheets, variations, progress claims and live job costing (NextMinute).
VIABUILD publishes $555 per month including three users with extra users at $65, AUD including GST, with takeoff, estimating and progress claims included in the single plan rather than sold as separate tiers. It syncs to Xero only and states it has no MYOB integration (VIABUILD).
Constructor publishes Core at $221 per month and Core with Accounting at $269, one licence included, excluding training and setup (Constructor).
Buildertrend, JobTread and Contractor Foreman publish in US dollars: JobTread US$199 per month plus US$20 per internal user, Contractor Foreman US$49 to US$332 by user band, and Buildertrend no price at all, only a custom quote. None should be read as AUD. For the category boundaries, see job management software.
If You Need MYOB Business, or Commercial Head-Contract Work
MYOB Business specifically. If your ledger is MYOB Business rather than AccountRight, Buildxact has no documented path. NextMinute documents a two-way MYOB sync covering supplier invoices linked to jobs, sales invoices pushed out and payments both ways. Tradify names Xero, MYOB and QuickBooks sync on its Lite tier at $48 per user per month ex GST.
Commercial head-contract work. Buildxact is built for residential builders and does not claim RFI tracking, submittal logs or commercial-grade document control, so this is a scope gap rather than a tier gap and Master at $599/month does not close it. The shortlist publishes nothing: Procore charges an annual fee by product and Annual Construction Volume (Procore); Databuild quotes by module and user and is itself the ledger; simPRO moved its Australian page to request-pricing, so quote, implementation and add-ons should all be budgeted (SoftwareHQ, 8 September 2026). For the wider platform picture, see construction management software.
If You Are an Owner-Builder or a One or Two Person Crew
Buildxact's cheapest paid tier is $199/month, and at this size that is the whole problem: there is no free tier and no single-project tier.
Built Simple publishes a Home Projects tier at $39/month for one self-managed project (Built Simple). Groundplan is a takeoff tool rather than an estimating platform at $99 per seat per month ex GST (Groundplan). Tradify Lite at $48 per user per month ex GST covers quoting, invoicing and job management without estimating depth (Tradify). At one or two jobs a year, a fixed-fee measuring service and a spreadsheet will often beat any subscription.
The Alternative That Is Not Software
If the bottleneck is getting comparable trade prices rather than producing an estimate, another subscription does not fix it. None of the options above goes and gets you competitive trade prices.
The outsourced route now publishes fixed fees. Structmate quotes a trade breakdown from $900 ex GST, a full bill of quantities from $1,800 ex GST and a pre-tender package from $3,000 ex GST (Structmate). EstiFlow publishes residential trade packs at A$399 including GST and commercial at A$999, each returning a cost report, an editable bill of quantities and a rate-free workbook for requesting subcontractor prices (EstiFlow).
Our own Adelaide trade-quote desk does the same job for the buy side: one drawing set in, a side-by-side trade comparison out, so trades are priced against a locked scope before work starts. If that is closer to your bottleneck than another licence, you can start with a trade quote through DDDI. It is not job management software, and a builder running several live jobs still needs one.
If You Are X, Pick Y
Every row is the vendor's own published figure, checked October 2026. Where a vendor publishes nothing, the row says so and names what it is quoted on.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is Buildxact actually good?
Yes, for residential estimating. Built-in digital takeoff, recipe-based assemblies and supplier price-list integration are the genuine strengths, and unlimited users on every tier is unusual. If estimating speed is your bottleneck and you run residential work, it is a defensible buy.
Why do builders leave Buildxact?
Most often the cost of the tier they need rather than the product. Foundation at $199/month has no invoicing, schedules or accounting integrations, so the real entry price is Pro at $399/month. The other real reasons are wanting job management at the centre, needing MYOB Business rather than AccountRight, and commercial head-contract scope.
Does Buildxact do progress claims and retention?
Yes. Contract Price invoicing follows the standard residential stage schedule, Completion Percent invoicing claims by percentage complete, and both support retention with separate total and per-invoice percentages. Check the setup against your own contract before treating this as a reason to leave.
Does Buildxact integrate with MYOB?
With MYOB AccountRight, yes. MYOB Business has no documented path, and Import Bills runs on Xero and QuickBooks but not MYOB, so bills cannot be pulled back in from MYOB as they can from the other two.
Can I keep my cost library if I switch?
Ask, and test the export during the trial rather than after. Client lists and job history move easily enough, but cost libraries, quote templates and automations export least cleanly, and the moment you need the export is the moment your leverage is lowest.
Is there a cheaper option than buying software?
For pricing trade work, yes. Fixed-fee measuring and estimating services publish per-job rates and require no subscription. They do not replace job management, so a builder running multiple live jobs still needs a system.
