THE PREMISE

Automate only what the drawing can actually prove.

Residential compliance review under South Australia’s Planning and Design Code is judged in millimetres, clause by clause, property by property. A model that guesses is worse than useless. So the question we ask of every check is not “can the AI answer it?” — it is “can the drawing prove it, and can a reviewer follow the trace?”

Auditable

Every reported number traces back to the clause it was compared against and the drawing evidence it came from. The trace is stored as data — a reviewer can follow it without reading code.

Provenance-first

Assumptions are data, not hidden defaults. A boundary that doesn’t close returns nothing rather than a fabricated value — failure is a result, not a silent pass.

Human-decided

The system drafts; a person decides. No automated pass or fail is issued at any stage. The output is a review package, not a verdict.

FEASIBILITY TRIAGE

What can be automated, and what stays with a human.

Before a single check runs, every requirement is graded by what the drawing can actually prove. That triage is the difference between a tool that assists and one that overreaches.

Provable from the drawing

Deterministic geometry the drawing already contains. Checked automatically, with the evidence attached.

B

Provable with one named input

Becomes provable once a single, named human input is supplied. Kept in scope, with the input made explicit — and it becomes Class A once that input is automated.

C

Judgement a drawing can’t settle

Context or judgement a drawing cannot resolve. Returned as an advisory flag with an explicit threshold — never a verdict.

The rule that applies is a property-level question.
